About This Protocol

Tesamorelin is a stabilized analog of GHRH with a longer half-life than sermorelin due to the addition of a trans-3-hexenoic acid group. An FDA-approved form of tesamorelin exists for HIV-associated lipodystrophy. The compounded version studied here is not FDA-approved for any indication.

Stabilized GHRH Analog
Tesamorelin's chemical modification provides greater metabolic stability than native GHRH, resulting in a longer active period following injection. This potentially allows less frequent dosing while maintaining pituitary stimulation.

FDA-approved tesamorelin (Egrifta) was studied in HIV-positive patients with lipodystrophy. The clinical data on visceral fat reduction and IGF-1 elevation from these trials provides a research basis for understanding the compound's physiological effects.
