About This Protocol

Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone compound originally developed as an antiparasitic agent. It has since been studied for broader immune-modulating properties. This compounded capsule formulation is available through licensed TeleWellnessMD® physicians in select states only. An FDA-approved version of ivermectin exists for specific parasitic indications. The compounded version here is not FDA-approved for any indication.

Available in AL, NC, and PR only. Two dose strengths available: 12mg and 18mg capsules, 30-count each. The physician evaluates appropriateness for each individual patient. This protocol requires physician evaluation before any prescription can be issued.

Antiparasitic Mechanism
Ivermectin's primary studied mechanism is binding to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, causing hyperpolarization and paralysis. This mechanism is highly selective for invertebrates, as vertebrates lack these specific receptor types.
Immune Modulation Research
Beyond antiparasitic activity, research has examined ivermectin's potential immune-modulating properties. Studies have looked at its effects on various immune pathways and inflammatory markers. Results vary across studies and no consensus on clinical applications beyond antiparasitic use has been established.
FDA-Approved vs Compounded
FDA-approved ivermectin exists in tablet form (Stromectol) for onchocerciasis and strongyloidiasis, and topically for rosacea and head lice. This compounded capsule formulation is not FDA-approved as safe and effective for the treatment of any disease or condition. The physician determines whether compounded ivermectin is appropriate for individual patient needs.
State Availability
This compounded formulation is currently available only in Alabama, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico. If you are outside these states, your TeleWellnessMD® physician will advise on available alternatives. Availability may change as pharmacy licensing evolves.
