About This Protocol

Coenzyme Q10 (Ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble compound found in virtually every cell in the body, with the highest concentrations in the heart, liver, and kidneys. It functions as both an electron carrier in the mitochondrial respiratory chain and a lipid-soluble antioxidant. Injectable CoQ-10 achieves systemic levels not reliably achievable through oral supplementation.

Available through TeleWellnessMD® licensed physicians in select states (CA, IA, MA, MN, WI). Physician determines dosing and frequency.

Mitochondrial Electron Transport
CoQ-10 shuttles electrons between Complex I/II and Complex III in the mitochondrial respiratory chain — a critical step in ATP synthesis. Without sufficient CoQ-10, electron transport efficiency is reduced and ATP production declines.
Lipid-Soluble Antioxidant
In its reduced form (ubiquinol), CoQ-10 neutralizes lipid peroxyl radicals in cell membranes, protecting mitochondrial and cellular membranes from oxidative damage. It is regenerated back to its active form by other antioxidants.
Statin Depletion
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) block the same biosynthetic pathway that produces CoQ-10 in the body. Multiple studies have documented reduced CoQ-10 levels in statin users, making supplementation particularly relevant for this population.
Cardiac Relevance
The heart has among the highest CoQ-10 concentration of any tissue due to its continuous energy demands. Research has examined CoQ-10 supplementation in the context of cardiac energy metabolism and cardiovascular function.
