About This Protocol

Bremelanotide is a synthetic melanocortin receptor agonist that works through the central nervous system rather than the vascular system. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors which act peripherally on blood flow, bremelanotide activates melanocortin receptors (MC3R and MC4R) in the hypothalamus to influence arousal signaling pathways.

Available for both men and women through licensed TeleWellnessMD® providers in select states. The physician determines appropriateness and dosing based on individual evaluation.

Central Mechanism
Bremelanotide's mechanism is fundamentally different from PDE5 inhibitors. It activates MC3R and MC4R receptors in the hypothalamus — brain regions involved in sexual arousal signaling. This CNS mechanism means it does not depend on vascular response and may work in cases where vascular-based treatments have not been effective.
Research Base
Clinical trials examined bremelanotide in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. The compound received FDA approval in an analogue form (Vyleesi) for this indication. The compounded version studied here is not FDA-approved.
Administration Options
Available as a subcutaneous injectable or nasal spray. The nasal spray offers non-injectable administration. Both forms are compounded and require physician authorization.
For Both Men and Women
Unlike most sexual health compounds in this catalog, bremelanotide has been studied in both male and female subjects, with research on libido and arousal across genders.
