About This Protocol

Bremelanotide is a synthetic melanocortin receptor agonist that works through the central nervous system rather than the vascular system. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors which act peripherally on blood flow, bremelanotide activates melanocortin receptors (MC3R and MC4R) in the hypothalamus to influence arousal signaling pathways.

Central Mechanism

Research Base
Clinical trials examined bremelanotide in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. The compound received FDA approval in an analogue form (Vyleesi) for this indication. The compounded version studied here is not FDA-approved.
