About This Protocol

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a naturally occurring antioxidant compound that functions in both fat-soluble and water-soluble environments — making it one of the few antioxidants effective across both cellular compartments. Injectable ALA provides direct systemic delivery at concentrations not achievable through oral supplementation.

Available through TeleWellnessMD® licensed physicians in select states (CA, IA, MA, MN, WI). The physician determines dosing and administration schedule.

Universal Antioxidant
Unlike most antioxidants that work in either fat-soluble OR water-soluble environments, ALA functions in both. This dual solubility allows it to neutralize reactive oxygen species throughout the cell — in the mitochondrial membrane and the cytoplasm.
Mitochondrial Cofactor
ALA is a required cofactor for two key mitochondrial enzyme complexes: pyruvate dehydrogenase and alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. Both are essential steps in converting glucose to cellular energy via the citric acid cycle.
Glucose Metabolism Research
A meta-analysis published in the journal Diabetes Care examined alpha lipoic acid supplementation and markers of glucose metabolism across multiple controlled trials. Research has examined its effects on insulin sensitivity.
Antioxidant Recycling
ALA has been studied for its ability to regenerate other antioxidants including Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and glutathione — potentially amplifying the overall antioxidant capacity of the cell beyond its own direct effects.
