About This Protocol

5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium (5-Amino-1MQ) is a small molecule inhibitor of Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) — an enzyme that metabolizes nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) and plays a role in NAD+ bioavailability and cellular energy regulation. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ may increase intracellular NAD+ levels.

Available through TeleWellnessMD® licensed physicians in select states (AK, AL, CA, LA, MA, MN, MS, NM, WA). Capsule formulation — no injection required. Physician evaluates appropriateness for each patient.

NNMT Inhibition Mechanism
NNMT catalyzes the methylation of nicotinamide, diverting it away from the NAD+ synthesis pathway. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ reduces this diversion, potentially increasing the availability of nicotinamide for NAD+ production via the salvage pathway.
NAD+ and Metabolism
NAD+ is a critical coenzyme in mitochondrial energy metabolism and a substrate for sirtuins and PARP enzymes involved in DNA repair and gene regulation. Research has examined compounds that raise NAD+ levels for their metabolic effects.
Adipocyte Research
Preclinical research has examined 5-Amino-1MQ in adipocyte (fat cell) models, looking at effects on lipid metabolism and fat cell differentiation. Studies have examined its potential influence on metabolic rate in cellular models.
Oral Capsule Advantage
Unlike injectable NAD+ precursors, 5-Amino-1MQ is an oral capsule — no injection required. This makes it accessible for patients who prefer non-injectable protocols or who are using it alongside other NAD+ support strategies.
